|Master craftsman Steve Kurgan is the “Woody” behind the Woody’s reputation. Steve began his career as a carpenter building homes in the San Francisco Bay Area for clients including William Hewlett of Hewlett-Packard fame. In 1989, Steve moved to the Sierra Nevada (not far from Yosemite) to pursue his dream of designing and building rustic cabin and home accessories.
Steve was inspired by the craftsmanship and designs of the people of the Adirondack Mountains surrounding Lake Placid. The interior trappings of the Lake Placid Lodge especially impressed him.
Since opening in the early 1990’s, Woody’s has become synonymous with custom styling and quality craftsmanship throughout the Sierra Nevada. Thanks to "word of mouth" and now the internet, Woody's reputation has spread eastward.
Steve uses select Ponderosa Pine which is kiln dried prior to processing to remove excess moisture and unwanted guests and to preserve the natural beauty of the original wood. Every order is a handcrafted, one of a kind piece that is literally made to order.
